Becca LaPole, HTA Level 1 Practitioner, is a SPLASH Coach at Advanced Animal Care of Colorado. She combines HTA techniques with hydrotherapy to assist dogs of every age and experience level with swimming. “I have found Bridging™ to be extremely effective in taking away the dogs’ fears and allowing them to realize that they are safe. I can also use Vibrational Grooming™ while they are on the steps; this also assists them with keeping a calm mental state while being exposed to a new environment.
Becca introduces Border Collie puppy Lark to the water in a safe, clean environment using Bridging™ and Vibrational Grooming™.
“With very scared or difficult dogs, I do the Bridging with Behavioral Change™ technique and tell them to remember that nothing bad is going to happen to them while they are with me and to help them remember where the steps are to get out if they get tired or nervous while swimming. HTA allows me to connect with my patients on an energetic level and gives me a deeper sense of understanding them and getting them to trust me.”
Becca swims young puppies that have never been exposed to water, older dogs that have had traumatic experiences, such as being thrown in deep water when they were younger, and everything in between. Her patients are sometimes older dogs experiencing debilitating health issues such as degenerative myelopathy or immune-mediated osteoarthritis. Conditioning, weight loss, anxiety and/or behavioral issues are other reasons that dogs join Becca in the pool. She says, “But most of the dogs come to swim for low-impact exercise, mental stimulation, and of course, fun!”

Rose Kennedy once said, “Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but of moments.”
It’s true, and this spring Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) is celebrating 20 years of those life-changing moments.
Each moment is itself a milestone – a milestone for people like shelter volunteer Pat Barton of Raleigh, North Carolina, who brought Darkness, a big, black, 2-year-old lab mix riddled with anxiety, out of the back of his cage through the use of energy medicine therapy and into a new forever home – and in the process convinced skeptics of the power of energy medicine.
A milestone for Denver resident Susan Williamson, whose experience with HTA helped her horse, Charlie, heal when traditional veterinary medicine alone could not.
A milestone for Lisa Osthelder of Phoenix whose profound experience with unconditional love during an HTA class changed the course of her career. She left the corporate world to become an HTA practitioner and has dedicated her life to promoting healing animals through energy therapy.
In the past two decades, Healing Touch for Animals® Founder Carol Komitor has helped almost 6,000 people around the globe be proactive in promoting the healing of their animals naturally.
Based on years of experience working with world class trainers, veterinarians, animal shelters, private clients and through extensive studies, Carol formulated the curriculum for the multilevel energy medicine program known as Healing Touch for Animals®. HTA techniques were created and cultivated by Carol through study, practice and experiential knowledge. “I’ve seen animals with severe diagnosis that have thrived after treatment. I have seen animals shift from being disconnected to embracing the other animals and their people. This work is truly life changing,” said Founder Carol Komitor.
She’s seen many moments, many milestones.
Through this program, animal lovers – pet owners, veterinarians, groomers and others – have learned how to help their animal’s energy system become stronger, balanced and clear. Carol and other HTA Practitioners have helped people use energy therapy on animals who are suffering from injury, illness or prior abuse and trauma to promote stronger bonds and natural healing.
HTA is much more than working with an animal who is ill. This therapy assists animals with their emotional and behavioral health, helps with focus during competitions/shows and activates a sense of well-being while creating a deeper animal-human bond.
From the first class that was offered in the Hill Country of Texas 20 years ago, HTA has grown into a comprehensive curriculum that includes five levels – Level 1 through Advanced Proficiency. Courses are taught all over the United States, Canada and Europe, and are open to all people who want to improve the lives of their animals, and in turn their own.
So, as we look back at the lives that have been healed and changed through energy medicine therapy, we are also looking forward to the many more lives who will be healed through our work.
We invite you to read about more life-changing moments and milestones throughout this blog, and learn more about the HTA curriculum here.

TABBY by Susan C. Kaufmann, HTACP
I started on my HTA journey after volunteering for a number of years as a Feline Adoption Counselor at a large animal welfare center in my area. I saw how easy some cats adjusted to the cattery environment and were quickly adopted. However, I also saw those who deeply struggled in this environment, especially those who were surrendered. I knew I needed to do something to help them.
One such cat was Tabby. At the age of 7, she was surrendered by her owners. She lived her life with 2 people who obviously loved her very much, but they were being moved to an extended care facility and could not take Tabby with them. This was a traumatic separation for both the people and for Tabby. Tabby’s owners were heartbroken at having to surrender her, and called weekly to check on her.
Tabby found herself in unfamiliar surroundings, scared, alone and depressed. She stayed in the back of her cage, lying in her litter box with her back to the world. As the weeks passed, there was little to no improvement. The volunteers and staff would try to work with her and would at times give her the visiting room overnight to let her stretch her legs. Whenever she entered the visiting room and got the scent of other cats, she would hiss and lash out and become difficult to handle.
I knew I had to do something to try to help her because I was concerned that her continued depression and escalating aggression may not bode well for her. So on a Saturday in mid-November many years ago, I went in to the cattery to work with Tabby. She was already in her carrier as the cattery was being cleaned. I took her carrier into a quiet office in the shelter where it was just Tabby and me. I gently opened the carrier door and waited for her to come out in her own time. She slowly emerged and began to explore the room. As she was doing this, I grounded, centered and set my intention for her highest good and to help her de-stress and strive for adoption. She quietly re-entered her carrier as her safe zone. I was then able to get her to come out and sit with me. On assessment, all her chakras were shut down and on Hara Line assessment, her Tan Tien had vanished. I began repairing her Hara Line and she actually allowed me to hold her. Her body relaxed. I did the bridging technique and spoke to her to address behavioral improvement. I told her it was understandable that she felt displaced and was unhappy being in a cage with other cats around; however, lying in her cage with her back to everyone was not conducive to finding a new forever home. I explained that she needed to help us get her adopted, and she needed to come to the front of her cage to attract potential adopters during visiting hours. I cleared her field and then she went back in to her carrier, but not way to the back, rather closer to the front where I was able to do the Etheric Heartbeat technique on her. At that point, her field felt full. Very basic techniques, yet very powerful. I then closed her carrier door and reassured her all the way back to the cattery. When I returned her to her cage, I cued her to ‘remember’. Something so simple yet again something so powerful. Tabby’s life was about to change….
When the cattery opened for adoption hours, I turned and looked and there was Tabby at the front of her cage, sitting so pretty! Mid way thru adoption hours, a middle-aged couple came in saying that they had seen Tabby twice and this was their third time back as they were drawn to her, though had not yet decided to adopt her. They wanted to visit with her. This was her chance!!!! She came easily out of her cage and I put her in a room with this couple. When the gentleman sat next to her and they were face to face, Tabby gave him a couple of head butts. She then did the same with the woman. Tabby had picked her new owners (and I had to hold back tears of joy)!!! This couple did in fact decide to adopt Tabby and took her home that day. A follow up call several days later revealed that Tabby was happily settling in to her new forever home. A call to Tabby’s previous owners had them so ecstatic with tears of joy for their little girl.
This was exactly why I started my HTA journey. Tabby is the absolute cornerstone of my personal inspiration. Her success story is gratifying beyond words. I think of her often and how HTA was instrumental in helping her attract her new home. I think of Tabby whenever another poor, depressed soul crosses my path and am extremely grateful to have the tools to help as I continue my work with rescue organizations.
Working with energy medicine helps to keep the practitioner in balance. Each time we enter another’s energy field, touch the physical body and guide the energy system into balance, we also become balanced ourselves.
Our intentional presence allows our unconditional heart to lead the way to healing as we provide the course of action of our beloved work. The healing energy comes through our energy facilitation as the volume of energy is controlled by the needs of the recipient. Because we work from our heart and the energy flows through us first, the healer also receives the benefits of the session. When we are connected to the grounded energy of Mother Earth and to God/Universe/Nature/Source of energy flow, the process becomes simple. We get out of the way and the energy does the work for us.
When we work with an animal, the energy flows through us much greater than when we work with a person. An animal’s energy system is ten times, or more, greater than that of a human depending on its size and if it is in a domestic environment, outdoors or in the wild. As a result, there is an enhanced opportunity for the practitioner to clear and balance his/her own energy system much more while providing an energy treatment to an animal friend.
The animal’s energetic sensitivity allows only the amount of energy needed to support its healing, as the volume of the energy flow opens wide and the animal receives all the energy needed to balance its expanded energy field. Practitioners, as the intermediaries, benefit from the ten-times greater energy volume flowing into the animal’s energy system which also affects their own. So, it becomes a question of whose heart connects to whom, whose heart heals whom?
Try this and experience the ultimate in “allow.” Place your hand on your favorite animal’s heart then step into the place of energy presence. Think of all the love your animal freely gives you and without turning on your healer switch, just be. Notice what happens.
The natural energy exchange comes through much greater than one might expect. We have stepped out of the way, the animal automatically exudes their unconditional love and the healing exchange begins. The question becomes, whose heart is healed?

Carol Komitor recently endorsed the book A Tail of Hope’s Faith by Diane Weinmann, a Healing Touch for Animals® Level 4 Practitioner.
“It was a pleasure to read this heart-centered offering about Hope, a dear companion, and other animals in Diane Weinmann’s healing practice. Diane demonstrated a lovely way to support our animals who are experiencing health issues, disease, trauma, and aging. Her knowledge and studies of holistic practices and her cooperative integration of traditional veterinary care are commendable. This is a must-read for those seeking additional ways of helping their animals and to develop an effective animal-human bond.”

A terrific story was shared with us by Erin F. of Maryland, one of our Level 4 Practitioners
I recently had a wonderful HTA experience with a wild owl on Assateague Island. He was a young Northern Saw-whet Owl that was captured as part of a 20-year long owl research project at Assateague Island National Seashore. This little guy was caught at 9pm on a gorgeous, clear, moonlit Saturday night. We bagged him and carried him back to the field lab. He weighed 81 grams (2.8 oz.) so he was small and stressed after being caught in the netting and faced with humans and indoor surroundings.
After being weighed, measured, banded and evaluated by the biologist, I was able to do a quick HTA treatment before we released him. I used Magnetic Clearing for Animals™ and Vibrational Grooming™ and he responded positively to both. He seemed to particularly like the Vibrational Grooming™ and hesitated in the palm of my hand for a minute before he flew off into the nearby tree. They tell me he has returned 3 more times since we first caught him on Nov. 22 – now that he is banded they can tell it is the same bird. I have to believe he is coming back looking for more HTA!
If you have a story to share, please contact us! We would love to hear about it.
